These inks are iron gall inks BUT Platinum has “re-vamped” the iron gall inks from their nasty predecessors and how they destroyed and clogged pens. Platinum has ground up the iron fillings so small that they will not damage or clog your pens. Obviously you won’t want to leave the ink, or any ink for that matter, in the pen for months at time without use but these inks will not damage the pen.Fountain pen inks that are produced using traditional methods have many times been replaced with an ink that is made by mixing dye inks due to their time-consuming production techniques. Meanwhile, Platinum Pen is currently the only company in Japan that manufactures blue-black ink in a classic way.
The ink color that is bright when you start writing becomes gradually black. It is also highly water resistant and suitable for permanent preservation. This time, we have paid close attention to the process of changes in color of the classic ink, and have released six new colors with the aim to enhance the joy of using fountain pens. Made using traditional iron gall formulas, Platinum Classic inks have great water resistance and fascinating color-shifting properties. As the ink dries, its iron component oxidizes from clear to dark gray, transforming the ink into a sophisticated off-black color before your eyes.

Note: Modern iron gall inks are much gentler than their more acidic predecessors, but we still recommend cleaning your pen every month or so to be safe.
